How can governments improve people\u2019s lives? Doing so is core to the role of government, and when done well and right, public projects, subsidies, and initiatives can mean the difference between happy and fulfilled citizens, and those who are (sometimes literally) left out in the cold. <\/p>\n
Never has the importance of a strong public sector been more front and centre than in the wake of yet another turbulent year. From addressing the ongoing pandemic to reviving faltering economies, governments around the world have been on the line and under pressure to deliver assistance and reassurance through ever-changing circumstances, while interpreting the global implications of geo-political shifts. <\/p>\n
But governments don\u2019t need to carry this weight alone, in either the developed or the developing world. The private sector has a role to play, both in supporting people and economies and in working with public sector counterparts to forge a clearer and stronger path forward \u2013 one that creates opportunity for growth and support for those who need it. <\/p>\n
Palladium forged such partnerships in 2021, including putting expertise to practice as governments rolled out COVID-19 vaccination and testing campaigns. We provided support at every stage, from procurement and logistics to the on-the-ground work of getting shots in arms. <\/p>\n
We helped our government clients to address a growing divide between job openings and the unemployed, establishing employment services that thoughtfully matched skills and experience to openings, and getting people back into work. <\/p>\n
Our work has long been intertwined with that of governments around the world, from pilot projects to complex, multi-year programs that reshape societies, economies, and lives. Two unprecedented years have exposed gaps in the services and ways in which governments support their citizens, but it\u2019s also created opportunity to improve upon and build those services back up, better than before.<\/p>\n
Despite these opportunities, current efforts aren\u2019t moving quickly enough \u2013 nor are these efforts keeping up with or preparing economies for today\u2019s ever-changing circumstances. Accelerating our efforts and effectively ensuring that both individuals and societies have the resilience to withstand more unpredictability in the years to come will require a massive undertaking. But when we stand together with governments, businesses, and civil society, we\u2019re well-equipped to tackle the challenge. <\/p>\n

\n\n\r\n\r\nRESTART SCHEME: HELPING THE UK\u2019S LONG-TERM UNEMPLOYED BACK INTO WORK<\/h3>\r\n\u00a0<\/div>\r\nLocation<\/strong>: United Kingdom Client<\/strong>: UK Department for Work and Pensions<\/p>\r\nAs the United Kingdom emerges from COVID-19 lockdowns, businesses reopen, and more people return to work, the Government is continuing to help jobseekers find employment through its Plan for Jobs. As part of that effort and to address unemployment and \u2018restart\u2019 the economy, the UK Department for Work and Pensions launched the Restart Scheme. Designed to support people who have been unemployed for more than 9 months, Restart provides tailored support for jobseekers in their local area.<\/p>\r\n
Palladium is delivering the Restart Scheme in the South Central area of England over the course of the next five years. With dedicated local teams and a non-traditional approach that combines empathy and customer service with practical solutions, Restart will impact over a million jobseekers on their journey towards employment.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n

What came next was actually getting doses into arms around the world \u2013 a massive logistics and supply chain puzzle in the midst of a global pandemic causing shortages, supply chain blockages, and travel bans. In partnership with the Australian government, our Humanitarian logistics team has delivered more than 16 million Australian-produced vaccines, and counting, to 15 countries across the Pacific and Asia over the course of 8 months.<\/p>\r\n
Beyond vaccines, we have also procured and delivered 11,208,500 pieces of COVID-19 emergency items, including critical lifesaving oxygen therapy, pharmaceuticals, and laboratory equipment for COVID-19 testing to support national response efforts. Led by our humanitarian logistics teams in both Sydney and Brisbane, across 475 flights and 21 vessels, we have developed a highly responsive, transparent, and cost-effective rapid procurement mechanism.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n

How can governments improve people\u2019s lives? Doing so is core to the role of government, and when done well and right, public projects, subsidies, and initiatives can mean the difference between happy and fulfilled citizens, and those who are (sometimes literally) left out in the cold. <\/p>\n
Never has the importance of a strong public sector been more front and centre than in the wake of yet another turbulent year. From addressing the ongoing pandemic to reviving faltering economies, governments around the world have been on the line and under pressure to deliver assistance and reassurance through ever-changing circumstances, while interpreting the global implications of geo-political shifts. <\/p>\n
But governments don\u2019t need to carry this weight alone, in either the developed or the developing world. The private sector has a role to play, both in supporting people and economies and in working with public sector counterparts to forge a clearer and stronger path forward \u2013 one that creates opportunity for growth and support for those who need it. <\/p>\n
Palladium forged such partnerships in 2021, including putting expertise to practice as governments rolled out COVID-19 vaccination and testing campaigns. We provided support at every stage, from procurement and logistics to the on-the-ground work of getting shots in arms. <\/p>\n
We helped our government clients to address a growing divide between job openings and the unemployed, establishing employment services that thoughtfully matched skills and experience to openings, and getting people back into work. <\/p>\n
Our work has long been intertwined with that of governments around the world, from pilot projects to complex, multi-year programs that reshape societies, economies, and lives. Two unprecedented years have exposed gaps in the services and ways in which governments support their citizens, but it\u2019s also created opportunity to improve upon and build those services back up, better than before.<\/p>\n
Despite these opportunities, current efforts aren\u2019t moving quickly enough \u2013 nor are these efforts keeping up with or preparing economies for today\u2019s ever-changing circumstances. Accelerating our efforts and effectively ensuring that both individuals and societies have the resilience to withstand more unpredictability in the years to come will require a massive undertaking. But when we stand together with governments, businesses, and civil society, we\u2019re well-equipped to tackle the challenge. <\/p>\n

As the United Kingdom emerges from COVID-19 lockdowns, businesses reopen, and more people return to work, the Government is continuing to help jobseekers find employment through its Plan for Jobs. As part of that effort and to address unemployment and \u2018restart\u2019 the economy, the UK Department for Work and Pensions launched the Restart Scheme. Designed to support people who have been unemployed for more than 9 months, Restart provides tailored support for jobseekers in their local area.<\/p>\r\n
Palladium is delivering the Restart Scheme in the South Central area of England over the course of the next five years. With dedicated local teams and a non-traditional approach that combines empathy and customer service with practical solutions, Restart will impact over a million jobseekers on their journey towards employment.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n

While the speed in which the COVID-19 vaccine was created and approved was record breaking, it was only the first step in the fight against the virus. What came next was actually getting doses into arms around the world \u2013 a massive logistics and supply chain puzzle in the midst of a global pandemic causing shortages, supply chain blockages, and travel bans. In partnership with the Australian government, our Humanitarian logistics team has delivered more than 16 million Australian-produced vaccines, and counting, to 15 countries across the Pacific and Asia over the course of 8 months.<\/p>\r\n
Beyond vaccines, we have also procured and delivered 11,208,500 pieces of COVID-19 emergency items, including critical lifesaving oxygen therapy, pharmaceuticals, and laboratory equipment for COVID-19 testing to support national response efforts. Led by our humanitarian logistics teams in both Sydney and Brisbane, across 475 flights and 21 vessels, we have developed a highly responsive, transparent, and cost-effective rapid procurement mechanism.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n
